Pudong in’t Airport Replaced 466pcs of Florescent TGS from Airsafe
\

On June 2, 2011, 466 taxiway guidance signs in Shanghai Pudong International Airport were replaced with new ones overnight, marking the largest replacement of guidance signs in the country. Information symbols on these new guidance signs are more scientific and reasonable, offering a guarantee for the busy airport operation. The airport currently uses traditional halogen light for retro-reflective guidance signs. However, due to its low color temperature, poor panel uniformity, and orange color effect, it can not meet requirements on brightness, color, and uniformity of guidance signs defined in new Standards. Experimental findings have showed that the brightness of the new translucent guidance signs with fluorescent light at 3-stage lighting is equivalent to that of traditional halogen light at 5-stage lighting. Moreover, the energy consumption per unit of the former is only 75% of the latter. Currently, the airport has 3 runways and 66 taxiways. It has the ability to annually handle 50 million passengers, making it one of the busiest airports in China. As the project is extremely complex and systematic, it has been repeatedly discussed by the owner, construction unit and our technicians before the construction. The smooth replacement of 466 guidance signs in one night without stopping a flight has also set a new record in the aviation history.
