The Third Runway of the Capital Airport Put into Use in a Year with Takeoffs and

The concrete construction of the third runway at Capital Airport has been completed. At present it is under the construction of marking runway signs and installation of lighting fixtures. The new runway will be taken flight check in September and is expected to be put into trial operation in late October.

Airsafe has the honor to participate in the construction and provides 6000 taxiway centerline lights (bi-directional).

The construction of the third runway is an integral part of the Capital Airport’s expansion project. The 3800m length new runway is parallel to the existing east and west runways and is located 1525m east to the east runway. The new runway is available for takeoffs and landings of F-class aircraft including the world’s largest passenger plane A380.

Besides, the new runway will be equipped with advanced III Precision Approach System that is the most advanced landing navigation system in China. Compared with the minimum standard for respective 550m and 350m runway visual ranges of the existing two runways, the new runway can still have landing conditions under the low visibility weather of no more than 200m runway visual range. This is bigger superiority undoubtedly.

In the plan of airfield, a set of double parallel taxiways will be set on the east side of the east runway and on the west side of the new runway respectively. There will be 3 linking taxiways built between the east runway and the new runway. The linking taxiway system that connects the east zone and the west zone will be built at the north end of the airport as well. The construction of these taxiway systems will improve security and efficiency of planes’ ground running and shorten taxiing time.

Upon completion of the runway T3, the Capital Airport will fully meet the flight transport requirements during 2008 Olympic Games. Meanwhile, it lays a solid foundation for the Capital Airport developing into a compound international airline hub.
