China’s newest Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (TFU) officially started operations on June 27, 2021.

The first plane, which took off from the airport at 11:25 am, was from Sichuan Airlines 3U8001. With 262 passengers, the plane headed for Beijing Capital International Airport had many cartoon pandas on its fuselage, reminding passengers of the animal's habitat.

Chengdu Tianfu International Airport is the largest civil transport airport planned and constructed during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20). As an international hub, Tianfu makes Chengdu the third Chinese city to have two international airports, after Beijing and Shanghai. And also TFU airport is expected to become Southwest China’s major international air hub。

The airport plans to build 6 runways and 4 terminals. This operation is the first phase of the airport, which has 3 runways and 2 terminal buildings. Among them, with a total length of 4,000 meters and a width of 75 meters,the west runway 1 is a 4F runway with the highest category, which can be used for the largest civil aircraft A380 to take off and land.

This is the second largest supply of LED lighting fixtures after the supply to Beijing Daxing International Airport (Over 20 thousands LED lighting fixtures) in Airsafe’s history. The third largest supply of LED lighting fixtures is to Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport.
