On December 25, 2025, the newly constructed Southern No. 2 Runway of Xi’an Xianyang International Airport officially commenced operations, marking the start of a three-runway era for the airport. Xi’an Xianyang International Airport has become the first ultra-large international aviation hub in Northwest China with three operational runways.
The Phase III expansion project of Xi’an Xianyang International Airport is a key national construction project under the “14th Five-Year Plan” and a “benchmark demonstration project” supported by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). It is also the top aviation development project in Shaanxi Province.
The new runway is 3,000 meters long and 45 meters wide, built to 4F standards. Together with the Southern No. 1 and Northern No. 2 Runways, it forms a coordinated “three-runway system,” increasing the airport’s annual passenger capacity to 83 million and cargo capacity to 1 million tons.
Airsafe’s Contribution to the Airfield Lighting System
Airsafe supplied all the airfield lighting equipment for the Southern No. 2 Runway, including two sets of Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) systems, two sets of sequenced flashing lights, over 1,300 LED approach, runway, and taxiway lights, as well as supporting products such as wind cones.
