Touchdown zone lights are used in the runway touchdown zone lighting system, set in pairs on both sides of the runway centerline to mark the touchdown area of a precision approach runway. The regular pattern of white lights gives pilots a definite longitudinal distance and lateral position reference, which helps them judge the touchdown point and complete a stable landing. The fixture uses an LED light source and a light distribution designed for the application; its photometric performance is aligned with the requirements of the corresponding airfield lighting system, giving airport operations a steady, clear and easily identified visual signal.
