Elevated Runway Edge Light (Type II) (TBC: no image)

The Runway Edge Light (Type II) marks the boundaries on both sides of the runway. Laid continuously along the runway edges, it gives aircraft an outline of the runway for takeoff, landing and the ground roll. The lights help pilots make out the width, direction and usable extent of the runway at night and in low visibility, and keep the aircraft operating safely within the runway. The fixture uses a matched light source and a light distribution designed for the intended application; its photometric performance is aimed at the requirements of the corresponding airfield lighting system, so it gives airport operations a steady, clear and easily recognized visual signal.
